WHY: Kearny Street Workshop's writing program offers a safe, culturally sensitive space for students from the APA communities and beyond to explore their creativity through writing. All of our instructors are Asian Pacific American.

WHAT: Explorations in Creative Writing will be an all-level, all-genre course examining the many different facets of content. There will be components of craft relating to poetry, prose as well as nonfiction writing. However, main focus of this course will be an exploration of one's personal content. This is where the act of writing begins. Through a series of writing exercises, we will begin the foundations to a larger body of work. This will be a generative process workshop devoted to the development of the individual voice. At journey's end, each student will be equipped with the materials to truly begin the act of writing.

WHO-STUDENTS: All levels welcome! All genres welcome! These classes are geared toward adults over 18. Prospective students younger than 18 should contact KSW before registering.

WHO-INSTRUCTOR: Truong Tran was born in 1969 in Saigon, Vietnam. He and his family immigrated to the United States where they resettled in the San Francisco Bay Area. He received his undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his MFA at San Francisco State University. He is the recipient of poetry fellowships from the Arts Council of Santa Clara, the California Arts Council and the Creative Work Fund. His poems have been published in numerous literary journals including ZYZZYVA, The American Voice, Crazyhorse, Prairie Schooner, Poetry East, ACM (Another Chicago Magazine) and The North Dakota Quarterly. His previous books include, The Book of Perceptions (Kearny Street Workshop, 1999) and Placing The Accents (Apogee Press, 1999) . His latest work, dust and conscience, has just been published by Apogee Press. Truong lives in San Francisco where he is trying to survive as a writer.
