What a Year it's Been at KSW!
We have a lot to look forward to in 2018 so as we reflect on the past year, we wanted to share some highlights:
The debut of "KSW Presents"
Our new bi-monthly artists showcase series saw us team up with local publisher, Omnidawn; celebrate the book release of APAture GPC members, Michelle Lin and Kazumi Chin; put the spotlight on young artists under the age of 22; and put on a joint API/Latinx reading with POC literary orgs, Kundiman and CantoMundo!
Our partnership with Saint Mary's College of California produces the Kearny Street Workshop scholarship!
First year MFA in Fiction student, Amy George, joined KSW in February, marking the debut of this new scholarship that provides needed financial relief for one API MFA student at the school to work with KSW staff for the spring semester.
Celebrate Your Body lights up the stage!
Our annual body-positive fashion show was, once again, an inspiring and uplifting night, proving every body is worth celebrating.
KSW Teams Up With the Asian Art Museum for Interdisciplinary Writers Lab
We cemented a new partnership with AAM to hold classes for our annual multi-genre writing class for people of color.
APAture debuts the Focus Awards
Our annual festival for emerging Asian Pacific American artists has been running since 1999. Since then we've seen many artists go on to great heights and we decided to honor a few including Ali Wong, Hasan Minhaj, the late Justin Chin, Michael Arcega, and Kristina Wong. We were grateful to have Michael and Kristina on hand at our Opening Reception to accept their awards on what was a very memorable and emotional night for us all!
#KSW45 Kicks Off
From Summer '17 to Summer '18 we're celebrating 45 years of Kearny Street Workshop. We're halfway through it and the best is yet to come!
For 45 years we have been here through so many of the city's changes. We survive because there is a need. So if you value the work KSW does, if you value and believe in the importance of art in our communities, then, be a part of what KSW is doing, today, by donating and ensuring we'll be here for another 45 years and beyond.
